Finding slow moments in the middle of a busy season
There is something about summer that always makes me want to slow down a little, even when life itself has not exactly slowed down yet.
Right now, I am still in summer school and officially counting down the days until I am on break after next week. So while summer has not fully felt like summer just yet, I have been trying to find little pockets of it wherever I can.
Slow mornings on my days off. Weekend day trips. Iced coffee before the house gets too busy. A beach bag packed for a quick little reset. Family outings that remind me that summer does not have to be perfectly planned to still feel special.
This past weekend, we went to the beach, and it was exactly the kind of day my soul needed. Sandy feet, salty air, snacks packed in a bag, and one of those days that just feels like a little pause button. The weekend before that, we went to a baseball game, which was another sweet reminder that some of the best summer memories are the simple ones… sunshine, good food, happy girls, and a camera roll full of moments I know I will want to look back on.
I think sometimes we put pressure on summer to feel big. Big trips. Big plans. Big resets. A wide-open calendar.
But this year, I am realizing that summer can still be beautiful even when it comes in smaller pieces.
A slow morning before the day gets busy.
A beach day squeezed into the weekend.
A baseball game with the family.
A coffee run that turns into a little outing.
A few quiet minutes outside before jumping into the next thing.
As a mom, teacher, coach, and someone who always seems to have a lot going on, I am trying to remind myself that rest does not have to be all or nothing. Sometimes the reset is not a full week away. Sometimes it is one morning, one afternoon, one little trip, one “let’s just go” kind of day.
And honestly, those moments have been enough to help me feel a little more like myself again.
So for now, I am embracing this in-between part of summer. Finishing summer school. Looking forward to a little more breathing room. Romanticizing the small things. Saying yes to simple memories. Letting the slow moments count, even if they are tucked between busy ones.
Because even a busy summer can still be soft, sweet, and full of little moments worth holding onto.
